Who are Kings of Radio ?

Who We Are

Kings of Radio are a 5-piece 80's rock cover band based out of the Madison, WI area. The band has been a staple on the southern and southwestern Wisconsin club, festival, firemen's dance, and county fair scene for the last 7 years, playing the great 80's "big hair" rock they grew up with. The band strives to deliver these songs with the note-for-note guitar solos and soaring vocal lines you'd expect. Whether you love to throw your fist in the air, bob your head, dance, or sing at the top of your lungs to tunes by AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Scorpions, Journey, and others, then you need to experience Kings of Radio.

How we Formed

Kings of Radio were formed in early 2010 by the band's bassist, Craig Brown, after taking a brief hiatus from his previous project. Craig, and lead vocalist Andy Gonzales, who had played together in previous bands Super Tuesday and AreaMen, had lunch and decided they were ready to get back in the saddle with a new project. They approached former Mighty Electric alumni Dan Kalagian (guitars) and Tommy Jacobson (drums) who agreed to come on board as well. After a few years of playing Top 40 and rock, as well as swapping a few personnel, including picking up keyboardist and rhythm guitarist Bob Hatch of the Fox Valley's "Spin" band, the group decided to focus on the 80's arena rock they grew up with and loved so much.

Today, you can catch the band and their high-energy set at clubs, festivals, dances and fairs around the state of Wisconsin.

Booking Info

Kings of Radio have decades of experience playing every kind of event and venue you can imagine. From the area's biggest clubs and Festival stages, to corporate parties, they are able to tailor their show to your needs.

The band's typical set utilizes a 2-set format, featuring (2) 1hr 45min sets of music with one half hour break between - the most of any band in the area. This format has proven to be successful in helping to keep the party going with minimal down-time.

The band also contracts with the area's top professional sound and lighting crews, providing production that scales to the needs of your event - whether a smaller club or corporate show to a large-scale county fair with a "flown" PA system and full lighting show.

Meet The Players

Andy “Gonzo” Gonzales

Lead Vocals, Harmonica, Acoustic Guitar

Andy is a long-time veteran of the southern Wisconsin music scene. He’s fronted and played in numerous bands, including Wildheart, Big Brother Billy, Areamen and SuperTuesday. Andy loves the acoustic guitar, wailing on any harmonica within reach, and is a MAJOR Star Wars nerd.

Dan Kalagian

Purveyor of Guitar Wizardry

Dan has been playing guitar in bands since he outgrew diapers. The guy can shred, slice, dice, and julienne any guitar riff or challenge you throw at him! Like Andy, Dan has played with a number of area bands such as orignal projects like Photopsia and Gladstone, as well as cover bands like Mighty Electric and Union City. Again, like Andy, a major Star Wars nerd.

Bob Hatch

Rhythm Guitar, Keyboards and Vocals

With Bob in the band, there is NEVER a dull moment. His energy on stage is undeniable and if he can’t get you in the mood to party, then there’s no hope for you! He was a long-time member of Fox Valley’s “Spin” band, as well as the bassist for Gladstone with Tom and Dan. To sum Bob up… FUN! Also a Star Wars nerd…

Craig Brown

Bass & Vocals

Craig is the founder of Kings of Radio and has re-joined the band on bass after leaving the stage to take over production duties for the band, as well as a one-year hiatus, so he could tour with Yanni. Ok, so it’s all true except the Yanni part… Like the rest of the band, Craig has played in many groups and roles through the years. Whether playing drums around Austin, TX with guitar prodigy Widgeon Holland, to blues groups in Tucson, AZ, and Wisconsin bands like South Creek, Areamen, Mark David Group, Gladstone and SuperTuesday. Craig appreciates Star Wars but doesn’t geek out on it like the rest of the fellas.

Tommy “Beefcake” Jacobson

Drums, Cowbell and Digital Noises

Tommy = Pure Beef. Period. Tommy has been playing drums since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny freaking Kaye. He’s layed the beat down for numerous area projects with Dan such as Photopsia, Gladstone and Mighty Electric. The 4th Star Wars nerd in the band…
